Creating Spaces – Art Bridge between EU and China

05/2008 – 05/2010

The project is based on a series of artist exchanges between the city of Beijing and the cities of Helsinki, Tallinn and Stockholm.  The artists chosen to take part in the project will spend significant periods of time working and living abroad, each exchange period being approximately three months in duration.  The length of the exchanges will give the artists a genuine opportunity to acquaint themselves with the local culture and the local ways of making and experiencing art.

During the exchanges the visiting artists will work in close collaboration with artists from the host cities. The artists will work together on designing and producing pieces of environmental art. These pieces of art will be situated in public places where everyone living, working or just visiting the cities can experience them.

The object of this project is to help build a strong foundation for long term cultural cooperation between EU and China. The Creating Spaces -project will promote environmental art and concrete collaboration between artists at international level.  By focusing on environmental art the project will raise awareness of the many ways in which individuals and urban landscapes are interconnected. While doing this, environmental art also address the ecological issues all modern societies are forced to face.
